About

James S. Flynn's Biography

I hate writing about myself almost as much as I hate having my picture taken. I don't write for publicity of fame, and I'm quite comfortable being a nobody. I just want to tell my stories.
My doctor told me I have ‘HD’. I don’t know what that is, but apparently, I have eighty of them.
Growing up, my mum just called me ‘hyperactive’. I was always in trouble at school. I hated school. I tried to set fire to it once.
After suffering a traumatic event that led to several years of recovery. (I'm doing well now, thanks for not asking), I bounced through a very mixed career: the military (I hated the military… I wanted to set fire to it), floor sanding, labouring, communications, media, musician. Eventually I turned to writing novels and songs, which turned out to be far less flammable and far more interesting.
These days I prefer the quiet life, and much prefer the company of animals, they don't judge, are always happy to see you, make you feel worthwhile, and never get road rage.
I rarely venture into the big smoke, choosing instead the small smoke of my home fire, my yacht, a fishing rod and a guitar.
I avoid mainstream media due to their lack of honesty and integrity, and I live with my wife and animals as empty nesters on a secluded property down on the right bum cheek of Australia. I enjoy playing and writing music, fishing, building things, sailing, and giving life to the many characters who’ve wandered through my mind for years.
Armed emus, orphans, treasure seekers, desert wanderers, hippy‑adopting grandparents, my characters are the only friends I need, and their stories blend satire, grief and hope for a better future.
I also hate having my picture taken. So, here’s a photo of my dog poking out his tongue.
